VF5 is a Martial Arts Movie! All Character Showcase

Virtua Fighter 5 · Combo Video · 2021

Virtua Fighter 5 stands out as one of the few fighting games that genuinely captures the visual language of martial arts cinema. This all-character showcase demonstrates why—every throw, every wall collision, every character interaction reads with the fluidity and impact of a choreographed fight scene rather than a game engine. Desk compiled this footage over 40 hours of meticulous two-controller play, executing frame-tight simultaneous inputs to capture each character's full moveset in action. The technical demand is staggering: the opening sequence alone requires 1P to hit forward+P and back simultaneously while 2P whiffs a standing punch, followed by a kick combo and throw that connects mid-dash. Those kinds of precision sequences repeat throughout, which explains the sheer labor involved. The comments reflect what viewers immediately notice—that VF5's combat animation, throw mechanics, and stage interaction (characters running or getting launched into walls) create something closer to live-action martial arts than typical 3D fighting game aesthetics. It's not flashy or stylized; it's grounded and convincing. The video lets the game's animation work do the heavy lifting, trusting that skilled play naturally produces cinematic moments.
